Margaret Cho Enlists All-Star Musicians for 'Cho Dependent' Album -- Exclusive Video

Posted on Sep 17th 2010 4:05PM by Dan Reilly

For her first music album, the recently released 'Cho Dependent,' comedian Margaret Cho has taken on some pretty unfunny subjects. First, there's her song 'Intervention' with Tegan and Sara, which is about the popular, horribly depressing A&E reality show. Then there's 'I'm Sorry,' a duet with Andrew Bird that was inspired by a real-life former crush who ended up murdering his wife. And like Cho's stand-up, it's all hilarious.

As Cho tells Spinner in this exclusive video interview, she recorded 'Cho Dependent' because she felt so much of "comedy music has always been so overlooked as really legitimate." To help realize her goal of making a funny album that would stand on its own musically, she enlisted an A-list cast that includes Ben Lee, Tommy Chong, Brendan Benson, Fiona Apple and Ani DiFranco. To hear how the album came about, the freaky murder story and the comedic stylings of Tegan and Sara, check out the video after the jump.
