She has written two books, “I have Chosen to Stay and Fight”,
which is a collection of essays and “I’m the One That I Want”.
SFF: How did you get started in comedy?
MC: Well I always loved doing it and I started at open mic night, I
was still in high school and I really enjoyed it. And I wanted to pursue
it and I really loved it.
SFF: What other work have you done? I know you have written a bit
and have done some acting.
MC: I’ve done a few movies, I’ve written two books, I’ve
directed a film and I’ve directed quite a few short films. I also
am appearing in a television series called the Cho Show, which is my
own show on VH1.
SFF: What is your favorite type of work?
MC: I like doing stand up comedy, that is the best, being the thing
that I am most familiar with and the thing that I enjoy most.
SFF: What is your comedy show about?
MC: It’s about a lot of different things. It’s about gender,
sex, politics, pop culture, beauty and feeling beautiful. Lots of different
things.
SFF: You grew up in the Bay Area, right?
MC: I grew up in San Francisco.
SFF: And what was that like?
MC: It was good. I liked it a lot. I love San Francisco and I try to
go back whenever I can. I
played the Warfield a couple of weeks ago. I really love it.
SFF: You mentioned that are working on a television show, do you have
any other upcoming projects?
MC: No, just the tour and the tv show.
SFF: What is going on tour like?
MC: It’s mostly just traveling everywhere and you get there, you
get to the city, you do a soundtrack and you do the show, go back to
the hotel and do it again the next day. Traveling and going to the next
site, it’s mostly traveling.
SFF: Is that tiring for you?
MC: Exhausting, but I like it.
SFF: What has it been like working with Liam Sullivan?
MC: Oh, I love him. He’s a wonderful guy and he’s a lot
of fun. He’s my really good friend and we have a lot of laughs
on the road as well.
SFF: Who else have you worked with that you have learned a lot from?
MC: I’ve been working with Min Harvey and I really really loved
working with Cyndi Lauper, she’s someone I have toured with that
I really love and respect.
SFF: What advice would give to someone who is interested in comedy
or acting? What would you want them to know that you didn’t know
going into this?
MC: Well I think it’s all about being really dedicated and never
giving up. It’s more about that,
than it is about talent or any kind of connections that you have. That
and hard work and never giving up.
