Margaret Cho: “We get to do a lot of great dancing”
Posted by The Star Scoop on June 12th, 2011

THE STAR SCOOP:
What can you tell us about the June 19 premiere of “Drop Dead Diva?” We’re really looking forward to it!

MARGARET CHO:
It’s going to be great! I’m really excited about it. This season is going to be really exciting. We have lots of fun guest stars and I think that there’s a lot of romance this year for every character, even my character is going to have a boyfriend. So that’s fun.

We’ve had a lot of people on, like Kathy Griffin and Wanda Sykes, Clay Aiken and Lance Bass. It has been pretty amazing and a very exciting season so far.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Are there any specific guest stars that you had an especially good time with?

MARGARET CHO:
I had a really good time with Kathy. I have never actually done any acting with her. I’ve done a lot of standup comedy with her and we’ve done lots of different kinds of work like that, but we have never done any acting together. So this was the first time we’ve done that.

THE STAR SCOOP:
You mentioned that your character, Teri, has some romance coming her way. Is there anything else in store for her that we should be on the lookout for this season?

MARGARET CHO:
There’s a lot of romance for her, there’s a bunch more story lines that happen for her character…I don’t know exactly what we’re allowed to give away. But, it’s very cool.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Given your experience recently with “Dancing With the Stars,” will we get to see Teri do any dancing?

MARGARET CHO:
Yes. There’s a great guest, my “Dancing With the Stars” partner, Louis Van Amstel. We get to do a lot of great dancing for a secret big plot twist.

THE STAR SCOOP:
When will we know about a season 4 of “Drop Dead Diva?”

MARGARET CHO:
I don’t know. I really hope we do come back for next season. I really believe in the show, and I really love it.

I feel like it’s a really important show because it talks about body image in a very, very positive way. It just shows all these different kinds of women, and how we can all be beautiful and we’re all different and we’re all great. The show has a really positive message in that way.

THE STAR SCOOP:
What can you tell us about the “Cho Dependent” concert film?

MARGARET CHO:
It’s a great show. It’s a different show, because a lot of it is standup comedy but it’s also music. I have my album “Cho Dependent” and this is a tour of that. I went out with this show and to promote this album.

[It has] some of the songs from the album but also standup comedy, too. A combination of both of them…the songs are also comic, so it makes sense. It’s sort of a hybrid show, a comedy/music show, but it is also a comedy/music album. It all fits in.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Is there anything else coming up for you? Any projects you can tell us about at this point?

MARGARET CHO:
We’re shooting the rest of season 3 of “Drop Dead Diva.” I’ll be here for a little bit.

I’ve been recording songs and writing for my next album. It’s going to be comedy and music together.

I’ll be going on tour. I’m doing Fringe Festival this year, which is a big theater/comedy festival in Scotland. I’ll be touring in the U.K. and also Australia in the fall.
