| Return to The Dollyrots | Hear
This - By Carey Miller
Special to The Clarion-Ledger Los Angeles pop
trio The Dollyrots will perform today at Hal & Mal's.
Formed in 2000, The Dollyrots self-released its own debut album Eat My Heart Out, which made a splash on its sheer quality alone before being picked up and reissued in 2004 by legendary punk label Lookout! Records (Green Day's first label). During a stint on the 2006 Warped Tour, the band met rock icon Joan Jett, who quickly signed members to her famed Blackheart Records label, which issued Because I'm Awesome in March. Since then the album has been on fire and The Dollyrots has received much national exposure thanks to the infectious brand of bubblegum-but-raw punk pop. Its songs have been featured on TV shows such as Ugly Betty, and the band itself made an appearance on ABC's Greek. The song Because I'm Awesome has been featured in a national TV spot for Kohl's, and vocalist Kelly Ogden was selected as one of Blender's hottest women of rock.
