Spaghetti Old No. 2 By Kevin Weirzbicki On his second solo release away from his band the Supersuckers, Spaghetti
offers a mix of a few originals and a batch of covers culled from an
eclectic group of writers. The set opens with Eddie’s version
of Bob Dylan’s "Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here With You,"
and although the song’s sentiment is directed at a lover, it could
just as easily be applied to the listener as the tune sets a warm and
fuzzy tone that permeates the record. Spaghetti reels off a little rockabilly
with Nick Lowe’s "Without Love" and strips down AC/DC’s
"Carry Me Home" to a swinging blues two-step. Reaching way
back, Spaghetti takes the Coaster’s "Hey Sexy" and turns
it into the type of speedy rave-up that’s familiar to Supersuckers
fans. "I Don’t Wanna Know" is a Spaghetti original that
taps into a Marshall Tucker Band-type vibe and is the best of the self-penned
tunes here. |
