12, 2007 Ramiro Burr: Joan Jett pleased with Girl in a Coma debut CD Good news for San Antonio's all-female rock trio Girl in a Coma. Rock legend Joan Jett sat in on and was pleased with the production of GIAC's debut CD, "Both Before I'm Gone," which is expected to be released May 1, on Jett's Blackheart Records label. Producer chores were handled by the veteran Kenny Laguna. Meantime, the trio -- Jenn Alva, bass; Phanie D, drums and Nina Diaz, vocals -- are also preparing for this week's massive SXSW music festival in Austin. According to Alva, the first single "Clumsy Sky," and video,
which was shot at Lerma's nightclub, should be out in a few weeks.
Working with Laguna was also a blast: And as part of the 2007 SXSW fest, the GIAC are scheduled to play at a showcase at 7:40 p.m. Friday at Emo's Main Room. That is actually a Blackheart Records label showcase which will also feature the Dollyrots, Vacancies, and Jett is hosting it. That will be followed by yet another label showcase with hip-hop artists Cage, Brother Ali, Aesop Rock w Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz, El-P, Galactic W Lyrics Born, Gift of Gab and Boots Riley. |
