GIBSON GUITAR ANNOUNCES JOAN JETT SIGNATURE MELODY MAKER GUITAR
Legendary Rock
and Roll Icon Joan Jett Makes History as First Female with a
Nashville, TN
(June 10, 2008) “ Gibson Guitar, the world's premier musical
"This is my guitar. Gibson was successfully able to replicate my custom velvet hammer pick ups which have not been available for twenty years. It's perfect for gigs as well as recording," says Jett. "For those of you performing live, you may understand the value of being able to shave off those split seconds between playing and interacting with the audience, especially if you use your hands to communicate. I can move between the killswitch, which mutes the guitar, and playing, and then back again without a lot of in-between motion. With its no frills basic set up, it's a perfect guitar for either an experienced player or someone just learning."
Gibson's Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker features a lightweight, slab mahogany body with a White Worn finish. Handcrafted to the same specs as Jett' s original guitar, the slim-tapered neck profile is similar to the Les Pauls and SGs of the mid to late 1960s. The fingerboard of the Melody Maker is constructed from the highest grade of ebony on the planet, Jett's personal choice for her signature Melody Maker, and the headstock features Gibson's classic, silk-screened logo.
The classic, snarling growl of Jett's original Melody Maker is accurately captured by a single Gibson Burstbucker 3 zebra humbucker, slightly overwound with asymmetrical coils, unpolished Alnico II magnets, and all the punch and power of an original Gibson PAF pickup. The tuners are mini-Grovers with authentic 'witch hat' knobs, exactly as they are on Jett's guitar. A "kill" switch replaces the normal Gibson toggle switch, and the body is outfitted with a period-correct black vinyl pickguard. The guitar also includes such typical Melody Maker features as 24-inch scale length and the standard Gibson Tune-o-matic and stopbar tailpiece.

WHAT THE PRESS IS SAYING: -"A
true rock 'n' roll original roared and soared over Harris Park last
night. There are plenty of rockers who'll play London this year. There's
only one Joan Jett -- the terrific gender-bending U.S. rock star who
can open a set with her own Bad Reputation.... - "Ladies & gentlemen, reaquaint yourselves with Joan Jett, feminist icon, DIY-rock pioneer and ass-kicking rock goddess. Joan is back with a stellar new cd, "Sinner." (Dan Nailen, Salt Lake Citry Tribune) - "Sinner"
is one of the best and most ferocious pop-punk albums of the year! - "She's amazing. Not only is her set rad, she's really cool. For someone like Joan Jett to be out here, she's on a BMX bike and she’s going around saying 'hi' to everybody, and I saw her playing baseball the other day -- she's totally down-to-earth and cool and ready to hang out. She's punker than anybody out here." (Tim McIlrath of Rise Against) - “Look out Pink, move over, Sleater-Kinney. Jett propels the flight with super-infectious tunes and anthemic, sing-along ready lyrics, pointing fingers and rallying her troops.” (Philadelphia Daily News) - "Her voice is remarkably young. There is nothing everyday about her: she is the hard-rock Dorian Gray." (Sia Michel, New York Times) - “When Jett Purrs, she roars. “Sinner” is utterly inspiring!” (Brian Smith/Detroit Metro Times) - "The
legacy's not about to stop...Joan Jett is still playing by her own rules."
- "Joan Jett and The Blackhearts stole the show - yes, even from Helmet and AFI. How? By playing genuine songs with memorable melodies, big, fat hooks and the I-IV-V chord progressions associated with punk's first wave. Right on, Joan. The teens in the Warped tour crowd went crazy. (Jeff Miers, Buffalo News) - “Sinner’s a winner, full of tracks brimming with sass, grit and totally ambrosial power-pop harmonies. A-.” (Tom Sinclair, Entertainment Weekly) - “A.C.D.C. is a perfect rock diamond in the rough. One of the many gems from the full-length Sinner.” (Chuck Taylor, Billboard) - “Jett has never sounded more vital and stands proud as more of a heroine than ever!” (Jim DeRogatis, Chicago Sun Times) - "As the BADASS INSPIRATION TO COUNTLESS punks and hard rcokers, Joan Jett will always be an icon. Sinner comes across with always endearing results, especially "A.C.D.C." and "Androgynous." Both fit her live a glove - black leather, of course." Barry Walters/Rolling Stone - “With the music industry churning out cookie-cutter pop-stars and the outside world broiling in social intolerance, Jett’s new cd arrives not a moment too soon. 3 out of 4 stars!” (Elysa Gardner, USA Today) - “Joan Jett’s best album in years. Jett’s still the toughest female rocker outh there, despite many challengers.” Michael Gallucci/The Cleveland Scene - “The listener will either shit, go blind, or get a hair raising erection.” (James Porter/Time Out Chicago) - "Sinner
hearkens back to another time, when rock was simple, sincere and all
sexed-up." - “Indestructible rock & roll gladiatrix Joan Jett. She’s vulnerable, vicious and certifiably brilliant. Joan Jett remains an incomparable force.” (Jonny Whiteside/LA Weekly) - "Over two decades later, Joan Jett still has a few surprises to reveal...The album, Sinner, is among her best yet."(Andrew Marcus, Dallas Observer) - “Joan Jett’s career has taken her from jailbait proto-punk to Iron-curtain-smashing arena rock to national sex symbol.” (Evelyn McDonnell, Miami Herald) - "Joan Jett loves rock 'n' roll - her way. Trends, fads and record-label politics be damned."(Rashod D. Ollison, Baltimore Sun) - "In legendary rock star fashion, the woman always looks hot...no matter what she's doing."(Jaan Uhelszki, Women Who Rock) - "Sinner rips!” (Mikael Wood, Village Voice) - "Joan Jett will show that she truly has earned her 'bad reputation' when she takes the stage on the 2006 Vans Warped Tour." (Jaan Uhelszki, Guitar World)
- "On Sinner,
Joan Jett comes out fighting with insanely catchy tunes that make Courtney
Love look -
Joan Jett is a Swiss watch, A German Train schedule, the Energizer Bunny.
In a word: dependable. "Sinner" has what Jett does best: injecting
punk rock's rebeliious energy into commercial chart pop. - “Sinner’s” got rebel-yell anger (“Riddles”) and it’s got lust (“A.C.D.C.”) It swings (“Everyone Knows”) and it thrashes (the Clash-like “Change The World”). Even when Jett purrs, she roars. It’s utterly inspiring!” - Fred Mills/Harp Magazine -
She's back and bad as ever!!!! – (Alexandra Gill/The Globe and
Mail)
JOAN
JETT and The Blackhearts
Joan Jett has been a force in pop culture since she was 15 years old. She is an originator, an innovator, a leader and a visionary. Not only is she an accomplished singer/songwriter/guitarist with eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles (including "bad reputation," "I Love Rock 'n Roll," "I Hate Myself For Loving You," "Do You Want To Touch Me," and "Crimson and Clover"), she also has her own independent label, Blackheart Records. She has acted in movies (including 1987's Light Of Day with Michael J. Fox and Jenna Rowlands) and a Tony nominated Broadway musical (The Rocky Horror Show). Joan produced records for Bikini Kill, the classic Germs, "GI," Circus Lupus for Dischord Records, and The Vacancies for Blackheart. She was listed as only one of two women on Rolling Stone Magzine's 100 greatest guitar players of all time! Joan has been called "the eternal outsider" which aptly describes a woman that has both broken boundaries and continues to beat down walls, yet remains humble and appreciative. "I've had a blessed career. I consider myself so lucky to have been able to do things my own way." This in itself is rare in an industry so bogged down with ego and complicity. Yes, her own way: From co-founding her first major band, the pioneering all-girl punk quintet, The Runaways ("Cherry Bomb"), at only 15 years old to bringing the infectious music of Joan Jett and The Blackhearts to the masses, Joan's determination and drive has kept her consisently busy and in the public eye. Since the release of her studio album, Sinner, in 2006 (featuring the successful and provacative single"A.C.D.C."), Jett has made appearances in concert, on TV, on radio, in movies, continuously trekking across the globe playing for fans both new and old. She recently played the Vans Warped Tour as a main stage headliner, and with great reception, will return for warped 2008.
Her music remains a major force in mainstream culture. Faith Hill sings a Joan Jett composition "I Hate Myself For Loving You", as the theme for Sunday Night Football on NBC, the only primetime network NFL football broadcast on Sunday night. Her seminal classic, "Bad Reputation," is the theme for the hit show "American Chopper." Her songs are in countless films including Shrek, Charlies' Angels, Monster, and Tenacious D, to name a few. With such continued interest in Jett's music, 2008 will see the release of a new greatest hits album. Due out in March as both a single CD and a double-disk set with a bonus DVD of music videos, the compilation will feature eco-friendly packaging (100% recycled paper and biodegradable trays) . Joan, who has been dedicated to keeping the environment clean for most of her life, couldn't be more thrilled to be offering a "green" effort. "I hope that soon we can make sure that everything we do is earth-friendly," she says. "I've always appreciated nature-trees, grass, birds, sun and even insects. I obsessively recycle. I almost never turn on lights; I pretty much live in the dark. I don't use a lot of water. I'ma vegetarian, so I avoid contributing to the major environmental damage that the meat industry creates. I try to minimize my needs." The hits collection, of course, will come out through Jett's own Blackheart Records , a label she founded in 1980 (which made her the first female artist to own and operate an independent record company). Joan and her longtim songwriting partner/producer Kenny Laguna created Blackheart Records, after 23 different labels when trying to release, "I Love Rock n Roll," after parting ways with The Runaways, had rejected her. Blackheart Records is home to up-and-coming groups like San Antonio-based female threesome Girl In A Coma (Both Before I'm Gone) and Los Angeles pop-punk trio The Dollyrots (Because I'm Awesome) who Joan met on the Warped Tour, as well as The Vacancies, punk band from Cleveland, OH and The Cute Lepers, a punk band, made up of some of the members, including lead singer, Steve E Nix of the Briefs. The label continues to add more artists to their roster in the coming months. Expect more releases from Blackheart Records in 2008. "I keep my eyes open [for new acts to sign] all the time when I'm on the road," says Joan. "We made Blackheart Records what we wanted it to be. It's a place where girls can feel comfortable to be-both in a work environment and on an artistic level." Once a week, Sirius Sattelite Radio's Channel 28, Faction, broadcasts Joan Jett's Radio Revolution. The two-hour program features Joan's favorite music, and tales of tour, music and early punk rock. "They give us complete freedom," says Jett about her deejaying duties, which she records via a high tech hookup in the comfort of her own New York home. "I think it's a lot of fun, and we get to turn people on to different things." Turning people on. That's just what Joan Jett has been doing for a long time - and she shows no signs of quitting anytime soon.
