The
Lashes get busy during album delay By Isamu Jordan • isamuj@spokane7.com • FEBRUARY 3, 2006 A lot has happened since late 2004 when The Lashes last played in Spokane, where half of the band is from. The Seattle-based power-pop alt-rock sextet recorded its Columbia Records debut, cutely titled "Get It," with respected Northwest producer John Goodmanson (Sleater-Kinney, Blonde Redhead). And though the album was pushed from its original October 2005 release date until later this month, The Lashes have taken advantage of the delay by starting a buzz on its current tour and getting favorable press from major media outlets such as Maxim. The Lashes played a high profile gig a couple of weeks ago at Spaceland in Los Angeles, the premiere venue for the Eastside alternative rock scene. The show received rave reviews on popular L.A. media gossip blog Defamer ( www.defamer.com). The Lashes will play a residency at Spaceland throughout March. Among the young band's list of achievements, The Lashes have played at the Playboy Mansion and have music featured on the Xbox adults-only video game "Playboy: The Mansion." Although The Lashes have been hated by much of the Seattle music scene, it gets extra cred points from its regular rotation on Jonesy's Jukebox, a show hosted by Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols on Indie 103.1 FM in L.A. With a catchy Hot Hot Heat- meets-The Strokes-meets-Weezer sound, The Lashes appear tonight at Fat Tuesday's, 109 W. Pacific Ave., with Federal Way punk-pop emo quintet Amber Pacific (Hopeless Records) and female- fronted Tennessee-based alt-rock quartet Paramore (Fueled By Ramen). Doors open at 7 p.m. Cover to be announced. Watch The Lashes video "Sometimes The Sun" at www.spokane7.com/soundwave. |
