SONIC RAMPAGE

Orgy - Punk Statik Paranoia
Reviewed by: Meg

It’s been quite some time since we last heard from the LA based band Orgy. After their successful 2000 release, "Vapor Transmissions", Orgy faded out of the scene. Now, in 2004, Orgy has resurfaced with a new album, a new label and a lot of attitude.

Infectious grooves paired with sensual, almost erotic, vocals make Orgy’s new album a pleasurable journey you will want to take again and again. The opening track, "Beautiful Disgrace", features a mesmerizing staccato rhythm that shudders through your body. From the machinegun riff, to the driving guitars and background screaming, the song is aurally intoxicating.

"Ashamed" gives you a dark brooding riff coupled with gritty scream and a lot of attitude. The various levels of sound intertwine, giving you a driving track that energizes the listener.

My favorite track on the album is "Leave Me Out". Beginning with a resonating electronic beat, it flows into some quick and witty lyrics before launching into the chorus with a rising growl. The chorus is melodic and addicting with a pounding guitar line and sailing vocals.

"The Obvious", the first single off the album has melodic riff coupled with some great lyrics, a catchy and dark electronic beat. This is a very radio friendly tune. Don’t be surprised if you start to hear it often.

A pleasurable assault on the senses, Orgy’s new album "Punk Statik Paranoia" is a more than worthy buy. A slight adjustment from previous albums, this record builds upon Orgy’s signature style by adding heavier guitar parts and some raspy screaming. Expressive and aggressive lyrics woven into the mural of sound makes Orgy’s latest effort a captivating musical experience. The debut release for D1 Music, singer Jay Gordon’s new label, "Punk Statik Paranoia" hits shelves February 24.
