McGee Back Home and Jamming To A Whole New Level and Saving Us From the
Summer Boredom
Story By: Sean Egnew/ Photos
By: Sol Tucker / Pointed Magazine Staff Washington, DC-- For those who had the chance to find the room to stand at the 9:30 Club this past weekend in D.C certainly, they certainly were treated to one of the best shows that has hit the club this summer in Pat McGee along with another local talented group in Vertical Horizon. Two Words, Amazing, Amazing! Known for their relentless tour schedules, PMB plays up to 250 shows a year. This summer, the band is embarking on a U.S. tour to promote "Save Me" and add to their consistently growing fan base. McGee looks forward to returning to the band's hometown of Richmond, however, and reminisced about the venues they used to play in Charlottesville, Richmond and D.C. While this band has grown large enough to be part of the big labels, hence their success with former label Warner Brothers and now to a much smaller label in Kirtland Records, they still put on a show that was dedicated to their fans back from the days of the small venues. Judging by the way we were unable to move from one wall to another at this great club, PMB has a great local following and teaming them up with Vertical Horizon is a marriage that only Donald Trump would approve of. McGee thanked the crowd for being such a large part of why they were in D.C for two nights, usually reserved for large double platinum style bands at the club, but McGee on stage no one cared, everyone was relaxing and enjoying every last note Pat delivered. Save Me's tracks like "Annabel" and "Shady" added into this show provide a refreshing calmness to them, a slow pace and a smooth melody. Wavering, bending acoustic guitar chords go down easy when combined with McGee's low-maintenance vocals. The most striking thing about the music that’s coming from PMB is that it is so easy to listen to. In fact so easy, some fans came for both shows and were prepared to meet the band the next night in Atlantic City as they were set to play the prestigious Borgata Hotel and Casino. What makes PMB shows so great other than the mellow music, is Pat just loves to play and his show continues to reveal his love for the music that is commonly missing in the musical world that we sometimes call what Corporate America wants... Pat loves to play and doesn't even really consider himself a rockstar, so with that, fans come out time after time and so does great music. Check this show out this summer, missing it is missing like missing a cold drink on a hot summer day. |
